Woodall Mountain, located in the northeast corner of Mississippi in Tishomingo County, is the state’s highest natural point, standing at 806 feet (246 meters). Formerly known as Yow Hill, it is situated just off Mississippi Highway 25, south of Iuka. While not a battlefield itself, the mountain played a role during the American Civil War, specifically in the Battle of Iuka on September 19, 1862. Union General William Rosecrans used the mountain to launch artillery attacks on the Confederate forces occupying the town of Iuka, under General Sterling Price’s command.
